Level 3 Hard Materials Technology

Course Description

This technology course requires learners to show evidence of design, craftsmanship, and investigations. The course will consist of Level 2 and 3 Engineering, Building, Construction ITO Unit Standards. These standards form the basis for the continuing a Vocational pathway at Polytechnic.

The course will suit learners who want to develop practical hands-on skills in the building and construction fields and as a start to tertiary study. The development of creative designs, and working with a variety of materials helps to prepare learners to be self-reliant and capable in a workshop environment. The safety and workshop practice learned in a supportive environment like school helps build confidence in young people. This course will include a series of written theory workbooks that support the practical skills being taught.


Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

There is a cost of $ 30 to cover the cost of consumables, but the cost of materials for the projects at Level 3 is determined by the projects selected by learners. As all projects are usually quite different. The cost of all the materials required for the project will have to be met by the learner.
A strong emphasis is placed on the use of recycling materials, and the use of native timber where possible.
